How to Forget a Wi-Fi Network

What Is It?

A guide on forgetting any Wi-Fi network on various devices. It is a good idea to do this for all Montana Tech wi-fi networks after you change your password to prevent your account from being locked out.

Windows 10

To forget a wireless network in Windows 10:

1. At the bottom right in the system tray click the network icon. Refer to Figure 1-1
2. Choose Network & Internet settings. Refer to Figure 1-2
3. Click Wi-Fi settings. Refer to Figure 1-3
4. Under "Manage known networks"(Refer to Figure 1-3), select the Wi-Fi network to be removed. Refer to Figure 1-4 
5. Click Forget. Refer to Figure 1-4

macOS

To forget a wireless network in macOS:

1. At the top of your screen, click the Wi-Fi symbol and then select Open Network Preferences.
2. In the lower right, choose Advanced.
3. Under "Preferred Networks", select the Wi-Fi network to be removed.
4. Click - (the minus sign) to forget the network.
5. Click OK.

Android

To forget a wireless network on your Android mobile device:

1. From the home screen, choose Settings. Refer to Figure 3-1
2. In the settings menu, choose Wi-Fi. Refer to Figure 3-2
3. Depending on version of Android, either press and hold the Wi-Fi network to be removed or click the gear icon. Refer to Figure 3-3
4. Tap 'Forget' at the bottom. Refer to Figure 3-4

iOS

To forget a wireless network on your iPhone or iPad:

1. From the home screen, choose Settings. Refer to Figure 4-1
2. In the settings menu, choose Wi-Fi. Refer to Figure 4-2
3. Locate the Wi-Fi network to be removed and click the blue symbol next to the name. Refer to Figure 4-3
4. Tap 'Forget this Network'. Refer to Figure 4-4

Chromebook (ChromeOS)

To forget a wireless network on your Chromebook:

1. From any page on the device, click on the clock in the bottom right.
2. Select Settings .
3. Select the "Network" section
4. Select Wi-Fi.
5. Select Known networks.
6. Find the network you want to forget
7. Then select More> Forget.
