What Is It?
Attendance (Roll Call), is a third party tool in Canvas that allows instructors to take attendance directly from any Canvas course page.

Instructors with courses on Canvas
Where Can I Access It?
The Attendance tab is located on the left-hand navigation bar when clicked into a course

Note: Initially, the Attendance tab is located far at the bottom of the navigation bar, but you can change the order of tabs
by navigating to Settings > Navigation, and then drag the Attendance tab to your desired location

After you have moved the tab to your desired location, click Save

Now the Attendance tab is in it's new location

How to use Attendance List (Roll Call)
From the Attendance tab, you should see a LIST VIEW of all students enrolled in your course

Note: Make sure the date is set to the current date

From the Roll Call menu, there are two buttons for quick options: MARK ALL PRESENT or UNMARK ALL

There are Three attendance status's you can select (not including the default Unmarked status)
1) Present, represented by a Green check mark

2) Absent, represented by a Red X-mark

3) Late, represented by a Yellow clock

Note: There is no save feature, whatever status selections you make will remain that way next time you log in

How to use Attendance Class (Roll Call)
Attendance Class is a good tool to use if you a have specified seating arrangments, or just like the visual nature of it
To access the Class view, click the CLASS tab near the top of the window, next to the LIST tab

From the Class view, you can see a seating grid and and a list of students to the left

Drag strudents from the list onto the grid

Once you have the students placed on the grid, click the TAKE ATTENDANCE tab to see the attendace view
This will get rid of the student list and show the attendance status icons

From here, you can click on the students icon to set their status

Roll Call Settings
You can change a couple options when it comes how grades are calculated with attendance
From the Attendance window, Click the Gear dropdown icon on the top left

Then click Roll Call Settings

A Roll Call settings window will show up, from here there are two settings you can make changes to
- Do not count attendance toward final grade
- Set percentage of full grade recieved from late status

Make your desired changes then exit the menu by clicking the X in the top right corner

Attendance Report
You can have a attendance report sent to your email
From the Attendance window, Click the Gear dropdown icon on the top left

Then click Attendance Report

This will bring up the window for exporting attendance data
From this window you Three optional fields and One required field
Optional
- Start Date, Start date for data
- End Date, End date for data
- SIS Student ID, Student ID number (799 number), will only pull attendance data for that student, only accepts a single student ID
Required
- Email to send report, This is the email Roll Call will send a .csv file containing the attendance data to

After you have entered the Optional and Required fields, you can click RUN REPORT to send the data file
You will shortly receive an email from Roll Call containing a link to download the .csv data file
Note: You have 6 hours to download the report before the link expires

Note: If there was an error while collecting the data, for instance the Student ID you provided was invalid, you will get an email with an error

Clicking the provided link will begin downloading the .csv data file containing the attendance data

We recommend using Excel to view the attendance data
