What is it?
You must register for the Microsoft Authenticator tool to log in to Montana Tech services. If you get a new phone, you must set up your Microsoft Authenticator app on your new phone before getting rid of your old one.
IMPORTANT: If you have already switched phones and do not get a code in the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new phone, you will need to have your Microsoft Authenticator reset. We can do this in-person in MG 110, or over a Microsoft Teams meeting where we can verify your identity via any form of physical photo ID.
Who Can Use It?
Anyone with a Montana Tech account.
Registering for the Microsoft Authenticator Tool
Step 1: Download the Microsoft Authenticator app onto your new phone.

Step 2: Click on "Add Account".

Step 3: Select "Work or School Account".

Step 4: Press "Scan QR code".

Complete the following steps on the device where you are adding the authentication method.
Step 5: Log into your Montana Tech email account on a computer. Note: You will still need your old phone to authenticate your login at this point. In the top right-hand corner of the screen, select the circle with your initials, and select "View Account"

Step 6: On the left-hand side of the screen, select "Security Info". Note: You may need to authenticate using your old phone again at this step. Select "Add sign-in method" and choose "Authenticator App".

Step 7: You will see a page that looks like this. Click "Next".

Step 8: Click "Next".

Step 9: A QR code will pop up on the screen. Scan the code with your phone and then click "Next" on the website. A test run will ensure it is set up correctly. Enter the number displayed on the computer into your phone.

Step 10: At this point, your new phone is completely set up with the Microsoft Authenticator app for your Montana Tech account. The last thing to do is to remove your old phone from your sign-in methods

Important: Please be sure not to delete your new phone from your sign-in methods. There should be some indication of which device is which on the screen.
