When dealing with passwords, follow these requirements for password change or reset:
- Must have a minimum length of 15 characters
- Cannot reuse previous passwords
- Common Montana/Montana Tech words cannot be used (i.e. Butte, Orediggers, or patterns etc.)
- It cannot contain a username or real name
- Must contain three of the four following categories:
- Uppercase letters: A-Z
- Lowercase letters: a-z
- Numbers: 0-9
- Special characters: !, @, ?, etc.
NOTE: These are parameters specific to Montana Tech, but consider additional strategies for a stronger password:
- Don't reuse your password on other services.
- Avoid dictionary words, names, or common terms
Wait 15 minutes after changing your password before attempting to log in. Also, clear any saved passwords in browsers, password managers, or WiFi. Multiple login attempts within 30 minutes will lock the account for security.
